Devon E. Jones, RN BSN
I am a nurse bummed out by the healthcare system. I feel like I have been cut off at the knees.
Education and Experience
I am a registered nurse. I graduated from Raritan Valley Community College in 2013 and then from Kean University in 2015. At Kean, I graduated from the Sigma Theta Tau International Honors Society of Nursing. I have 5 years of medical surgical experience from Overlook Medical Center of Atlantic Health, in Summit New Jersey, with one of those 5 years on a medical-surgical/oncology unit.
I have also worked in outpatient family practice as a nurse and medical assistant, and in dermatology as a medical assistant.
Prior to becoming a nurse I graduated from Lehigh County Community College and became a Medical Assistant through the AAMA (American Association of Medical Assistants). It is a great regret in my life that I let this license lapse – I was distracted in nursing school and forgot to renew it.
Current Situation
Currently, I’m on unpaid administrative leave from Overlook Hospital of Atlantic Health System in New Jersey because of the COVID-19 vaccination mandates. Well, at least I think I am. AHS has not responded to my e-mails since my last day of work on December 4, 2021, and I have not been given notice of termination or change in my employment status.
I am saying no to mandates because I do not feel there is adequate transparency or accountability on the part of vaccine manufacturers or the governmental agencies and companies requiring the COVID-19 vaccines about the benefits, side effects, or outcomes of the COVID-19 vaccine.
I also feel that vaccine mandates create a system of second-class citizens that restricts movement and the ability to equally function in society. I feel that this is a dangerous precedent that historically leads to human atrocities – theft of life and property.
I think I got to this stubborn demand for freedom because of literature I have read in the last couple of years from Dr. Jordan Peterson’s reading list. From this list, I have learned about the depths of my soul, my capacity for good and evil, how easy it is to find myself in hell on earth, and how my choices can make a difference in how well I live my life and affect the people around me.
